According to the manual, the 1937 Pattern was a direct descendent of, and improvement upon, the 1908 Pattern; unfortunately, the troops who transitioned from one to the other did not see it as an improvement.

The 1937 pattern equipment served its purpose well and although superceded by the 1958 pattern as a standard all-arms issue, was still in service with some Territorial battalions into the mid-1970s. This set, identical to those manufactured in Great Britain, was made in India, the difference being that the canvas was physically more pliable.
